Soetkin Baptist (mezzo-soprano, °1985) started her musical education in Galmaarden where she took up violin and singing classes. During her studies she joined various ensembles and choirs among which Innamorati di Musica.In 2003 she continued her studies at Lemmensinstituut, Leuven, taking up singing as her main instrument apart from violin and piano classes. Six years later she graduated magna cum laude.
From 2004 till 2009 Soetkin was Ishtar’s lead singer, the Belgian contribution to Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrado, Serbia in 2008. From 2010 on she hit the stage with ‘Friday in the City’ (with a.o. Marty Townsend); Wouter Vandenabeele’s ‘Chansons sans paroles’; her duet with Anne Van den Bossche (piano); ‘Soetkin made in France’ with ensemble Polygone; her duet with Bert Candries (guitar) and Duo Dès with Eddy Peremans (guitar). Apart from these Soetkin was also a welcome guest with a.o. Olla Vogala. Early January 2015 she appeared on stage with ‘Nerf’ by Ultima Thule in cooperation with Zefiro Thorna.
Anno 2015 Soetkin sings with ensemble Encantar and ensemble Psallentes and she regularly performs with Graindelavoix. From 2012 on Soetkin participates as a guest musician in ‘Drumming’ by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s Rosas.
In September 2013 Soetkin left for Norway. There she started creating her own repertoire which resulted in Furua. In September 2014 Soetkin made her début with music theatre ‘Liedjes met Wortels’ under the authority of Zonzo Compagnie and with Jan Van Outryve. Up to today this production proves to be successful at home and abroad.
